Duchy Nursery and Pinetum Park Gardens

Wednesday 10th September 2014

Our trip to the Duchy Nursery and Pinetum Park Gardens was organised by Janet Jones (Outings Secretary) for Wednesday 10th September.

It was a beautiful, warm and sunny day and a group of 28 members and friends were picked up and taken by coach driven by our Guest of Honour from the Summer Show, Pam Colton. We soon arrived at the Duchy Nursery and enjoyed a coffee and a wonder around the nursery.

We had about an hour here to browse and purchase plants (and most of us did!) before setting off again to our next destination at Pinetum Park in St Austell. On arrival, we were met and greeted by the current owner, who gave us a brief history of the garden and he guided us to the starting point.

We were given information leaflets, with a map of the different areas to visit - these were as follows: The Sunken Garden; The Water Garden; The Pinetum; The Slave Garden; Top Garden and Woodland Walk; The Woodland Garden; The Japanese Garden; The Lake and Black Swans. (Sadly - no black swans were seen as apparently they had succumbed to the fox.)

There was so much to see, but we had plenty of time, and after enjoying the wonderful gardens on offer, we found time for a nice cup of tea to round up the day and to buy yet more plants!   Everyone enjoyed the day very much.

Hope you enjoy some of the many photographs taken on the day.
