Summer Walk

Wild Flower Walk

Thursday 16th June 2016

In mid-June some 20 members gathered at Postbridge for a wild flower walk to the famous hay meadows. The expert leader Paul Rendell led us on a circuitous route pointing out interesting plants on the way and explaining some of their traditional and medicinal uses.

The hay meadows themselves (which are private) were a mass of flowers with oxeye daisy and field buttercups dominating the picture. Between them were also eyebright, yellow rattle and numerous orchids of four different species, including the butterfly orchid which was new to many of us.

Unfortunately a prolonged downpour forced us to make an early retreat to the farm, where we were consoled by an excellent Devon cream tea.

Photos from the walk.
