Outings

The Society organises a few self-drive visits to gardens, usually in the Spring and Summer. Once organised, details of these outings are shown here.

‘Dippers’, Shaugh Prior

Our first outing of the year is to ‘Dippers’ in Shaugh Prior on Wednesday the 11th of February, weather permitting. There should be snowdrops and hellebores out, and there is a wildlife area. The garden is ‘wildlife friendly’ according to Devon Wildlife Trust, so the owners, Stella and Roy, are grateful for donations to DWT. The aim is to meet in Shaugh Prior at 10:15-10:30; there is parking in the village and in the White Thorn Inn car park. ‘Dippers’ is a short walk (100 m) down a lane. Waterproof footwear is a good idea. The White Thorn Inn have agreed to open early (11:30) so that we can have coffee there. If you would like to go please contact Annie in advance on 01822 852672 or 07847 746127, so she has some idea of numbers.

Buckland Cottage Nursery

Our second outing is to David Carver’s Buckland Cottage Nursery and Garden near Buckland Monachorum at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, 24th of March. This is a small nursery and garden that is not open to the public. On entering Buckland Monachorum coming from Yelverton go past the road on the right to the village centre and keep straight on. Buckland Cottage Nursey is on the left 150 m past ‘Wildside’. There is ample parking, plus toilets. Some of the ground is uneven especially by greenhouse entrances. The tour of the nursery takes about two hours and the cost is £5 per person, plus £5 if you want tea and cake. Pay cash on the day; David will make a charitable donation. Please let Graham Bradley know if you are planning to come (turgor.gb@gmail.com or 01822 853997).
